1. About these terms

These Terms and Conditions apply to your use of the Te Ao Mārama website, member portal, membership services, event registrations and other online services provided by Te Ao Mārama, Aotearoa Māori Dental Association.

By using this website, creating an account, becoming a member, registering for an event or purchasing a paid service, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.

If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the relevant service.

2. About Te Ao Mārama

Te Ao Mārama is the Aotearoa Māori Dental Association. Our kaupapa is to provide leadership, representation and support to the Māori oral health workforce and to improve Māori oral health equity through advocacy, governance and workforce development.

3. Website use

You may use this website for lawful personal and professional purposes connected with Te Ao Mārama, Māori oral health, membership, professional development, events and the resources we provide.

You must not:

• misuse or attempt to interfere with the website, member portal or associated systems

• attempt to gain unauthorised access to another person's account or restricted content

• upload malicious software or harmful material

• use content from the website in a misleading, unlawful or inappropriate way

• use member information obtained through Te Ao Mārama for unsolicited marketing, harassment or purposes unrelated to the kaupapa for which it was provided.

We may restrict or suspend access where reasonably necessary to protect Te Ao Mārama, its members, its systems or other users.

4. Membership

Membership is available in the categories and subject to the eligibility requirements described on our Membership page.

When applying for membership, you agree to provide information that is accurate, complete and current. We may request further information where reasonably necessary to confirm your membership category or eligibility.

Membership may also be governed by Te Ao Mārama's constitution, rules or resolutions. Where there is any inconsistency concerning the governance or formal rights of membership, those governing documents will take precedence to the extent applicable.

5. Annual membership term

Unless stated otherwise, Te Ao Mārama membership runs for 12 months from the date the membership begins or renews.

The membership fee applicable to you will be displayed before you complete registration or renewal.

Some membership categories may be offered without a fee.

Membership benefits may evolve over time as Te Ao Mārama's activities, services and member resources change.

6. Recurring membership and automatic renewal

Where you choose or purchase an automatically renewing membership, your membership will renew for a further annual term unless you cancel it before the renewal date.

By selecting an automatically renewing paid membership, you authorise Te Ao Mārama and its payment provider to charge the applicable annual membership fee to your nominated payment method at each renewal.

Your renewal date and membership status will be available through your member account where this functionality is provided.

Where reasonably practicable, Te Ao Mārama will provide advance notice of an upcoming paid renewal.

You are responsible for keeping your payment and contact details current.

7. Changes to membership fees

Te Ao Mārama may change membership fees from time to time.

Any change to the fee for an automatically renewing membership will apply from a future renewal and will be communicated before that renewal takes effect.

If you do not wish to renew at the new fee, you may cancel before your renewal date.

8. Cancelling a membership

You may cancel an automatically renewing membership through your member account where that option is available, or by contacting Te Ao Mārama.

Cancelling automatic renewal prevents the next annual charge. Unless otherwise agreed or required by law, your existing membership will remain active until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Cancellation does not automatically entitle you to a refund for a current or partially used membership period.

9. Refunds

Membership fees are generally non-refundable once the membership period has commenced, including where you choose not to use available membership benefits.

Te Ao Mārama may consider refund requests where there has been an error, duplicate payment or exceptional circumstance.

Nothing in these terms limits any refund or other right you may have under New Zealand law that cannot legally be excluded.

10. Failed or overdue payments

If a recurring membership payment cannot be processed, we or our payment provider may notify you and may attempt to process the payment again.

If payment remains outstanding, Te Ao Mārama may suspend or end access to paid membership benefits until the membership is brought up to date.

11. Member accounts

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your member login details and for activity carried out through your account.

Please notify us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.

Member-only information, resources, recordings, documents and other content must not be shared publicly unless Te Ao Mārama has authorised that sharing.

12. Member directory and practitioner map

Te Ao Mārama may provide a members-only directory, practitioner map or networking function.

Where participation is optional, only information you have agreed to make available for that purpose will be displayed to other authorised users.

Directory information is provided to support professional connection and member-to-member networking. It must not be harvested, sold, copied in bulk or used for unsolicited commercial communications.

Members are responsible for keeping any directory information they provide accurate and current.

13. Events and Hui ā-Tau

Te Ao Mārama may offer hui, wānanga, professional development activities, webinars, Hui ā-Tau and other events.

Event-specific details, including dates, venues, eligibility, pricing, member pricing, cancellation terms and refund conditions, may be provided at the time of registration. Those event-specific conditions form part of these Terms.

Te Ao Mārama may reasonably change an event's programme, speakers, venue, delivery method or timetable where circumstances require.

If Te Ao Mārama cancels a paid event, we will communicate the refund, credit or alternative arrangements that apply.

14. Payments

Online payments may be processed by third-party payment providers such as Stripe and services integrated with the Wix platform.

Your use of a third-party payment service may also be subject to that provider's terms and privacy practices.

Te Ao Mārama does not guarantee the continuous availability of any third-party payment platform.

15. Email and member communications

Members may receive communications necessary to administer their membership, including account notices, payment information, renewal reminders, event information and important organisational updates.

These administrative communications are separate from optional promotional or marketing communications.

Where required, marketing emails will provide a way for you to unsubscribe.

16. Intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, the content on this website, including text, graphics, photographs, videos, recordings, resources, branding and the Te Ao Mārama logo, belongs to Te Ao Mārama or is used with permission.

You may access and use material for personal, educational and professional purposes consistent with the purpose for which it was provided.

You may not reproduce, publish, sell, materially alter or commercially exploit Te Ao Mārama content without permission unless the law otherwise permits.

Third-party material remains the property of its respective owner.

17. Member and user submissions

If you provide content for publication or sharing through Te Ao Mārama, including photographs, job listings, event material, submissions or professional information, you confirm that you have the right to provide that material.

You grant Te Ao Mārama permission to use that material for the purpose for which it was submitted.

We may edit formatting or decline or remove material where reasonably necessary.

18. Oral health information

Information provided through this website is intended for general information, education, advocacy and professional purposes.

It is not a substitute for individual dental, medical or other health advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Anyone seeking advice about their own oral health should consult an appropriately qualified health professional.

19. External websites

This website may contain links to government agencies, health organisations, professional bodies, education providers and other third-party websites.

Te Ao Mārama does not control those websites and is not responsible for their availability, accuracy, security or privacy practices.

20. Website availability and accuracy

We take reasonable care to keep our website and information current and available, but information, links, services and functionality may change.

We do not guarantee that the website will always be uninterrupted, error-free or completely up to date.

21. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Te Ao Mārama will not be liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of, or inability to use, this website or its online services.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded under New Zealand law.

Our collection and handling of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy.

23. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms and Conditions where our website, membership services, technology or legal obligations change.

Where a material change directly affects a paid recurring membership, we will take reasonable steps to communicate that change before it takes effect.

24. Governing law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of New Zealand.

Any dispute relating to these terms or the use of Te Ao Mārama's services will be subject to the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
